By Peter Miller This was a very entertaining book to read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. While I'm sure as it grows in popularity that some folks will knock it for having some spelling errors or not sounding as flowery or downright romantic as, say Tom Clancy, this guy clearly can dot his i's with 5.56 and cross his t's with a bayonet should he care to do so. You can't hold his literary style against him though. We all know that the Brits speak about 31 flavors of an archaic and less-evolved (some might say barbaric) version of English :) In spite of that unfortunate handicap the author has done a marvelous job of giving us an exciting, yet not over-the-top macho BS, picture of what the SAS does when they're out and about in the country-side.The only real drawback that I found with the book is that I wish it were longer. Not that you're getting shortchanged at all, but you can kind of tell that the author has more to say but doesn't. It's liking when you're a kid talking to your grandpa, you're like "Tell me the story about...." and he's all "Oooh you don't wanna hear about that." The feeling is kinda like "STFU and tell the story, and don't leave anything out!"Maybe a sequel, or an addendum?Working over here in Afghanistan as a lazy civilian I do bump into these guys from time to time and one can't help but wonder a bit about what their story is as the guys are pretty confusing in real life. I remember walking into the ops building on the flight-line of a dusty little airbase out in the Helmand somewhere and seeing a bunch of these guys piled up lemur-style under the A/C as they tried to sleep the day away while obviously waiting for something to happen, their choppers were parked out on the ramp. I only knew they were Brits after I opened the door and was greeted with a chorus of almost unintelligible babbling about bloody this, bloody that, flies, cue jumping, and a few grunts. It turns out they wanted the door shut.Like the author says in the book, you probably won't ever get these guys to start telling you these stories. This book is probably the closest thing to getting the chance to sit down next to one of them and hearing about their experiences. If you're looking for Rogue Warrior garbage, you won't find it here. But if you're looking to get a glimpse behind the scenes into the stories you read about in the news (and those that you don't!), definitely grab this book.

Usually don’t read war-based type of books but this one caught my attention quickly and kept me into the story until it ended. This novel shared the rough interactions the special military forces handled on a regular basis. The book discusses the first person account into the mission at hand and further intense details into the path the story takes. I don’t want to give it away but this book was informative and action-packed book.

This is a love story from a simpler era, a lifetime before emails, texting, and tweeting. A time when the fastest way to stay in touch was with paper, ink, and air mail. A week after he got engaged, a young private was deployed to the other side of the world and wrote home to his fiancé each day, sometimes twice a day. He talked about the war and their plans for a future together. She saved all his letters and kept them in a box with her scrapbook of every date they had together. When the war ended, they got married, cared for each other in sickness and health, and were inseparable for more than 50 years. All that time, the box remained hidden in the attic under the eaves. After death took them both, the letters and scrapbook once again saw the light of day. Faded and brittle with age, they preserved a vision of life and courtship exactly as it was. This book is a glimpse into the lives of two very special people, as told through the hand written letters and hand-pasted images of a couple who were destined to live their lives together. Their words and pictures will be familiar to everyone in a relationship, especially those kept apart by military duty or civilian careers.

Aside from the loyal efforts presented by both parties of man and wife, this book offers a sense of companionship and romance though dire times like no other literary work before. Warhol allows his audience a phenomenal view of the hindrances his mother and father faced during a time of sacrifice and difficulty. I encourage all readers to indulge in the hardships and resilience that the characters endure. As a member of the audience i personally recommend this novel to all seeking a work of passion, compassion and strength. "Three minutes in the Front Hallway" is simply a remarkable work of literature.

A Touching Love Story By Mary Ann Beyond being a son's wonderful loving tribute, the book captures the daily life of a soldier through his own eyes, thereby preserving a slice of history. The main focus, however, is the loyal, loving and tender relationship that enabled two people, separated by circumstances beyond their control, to overcome their time apart. The careful footnotes make the book understandable for the modern reader. The scrapbook photgraphed at the end is a visual treasure.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. you'll feel like part of the family By Patty Shannon It doesn't matter that you don't know the people. By the time you finish the book, you'll feel like part of the family. A wonderful portrait of a different time, a window into everyday lives during that time. It's obvious that every effort was made to preserve the letters exactly as they were written. An entertaining read as well as a tribute to the love that shines out from every page.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. High Expectations - Very Disappointed By Paul A. Harris The premise of this book was great. The lead in was that this was 50 "crucial" eye-witness accounts from both sides of the Rosebud Battle. Unfortunately, only about 20 are "crucial". The rest were one -two sentences. Not very enlightening. What you get is a repeated background of each person that gave an account. How many times do I need to know who Anson Mills is? Frank Grouard? John Finerty etc. Apparently 50 times. How about better editing? Thirty-three accounts from the American view and seventeen from the Lakota and their allies. The White Shield account was fantastic and I wish there were more like it. Words like harrowing and exciting with high speed horseback action, thrilling rescues, etc. Really? We need a more scholarly rendition of the eyewitness accounts. I could go on but enough said.

If you are interested in his life and his accomplishments this is the book for you. It can be read very quickly and gives you an outline of what he has achieved. I'm old enough to remember him and was living in Africa during ten years of his presidency. I only wish I could find another book as well written--in French-- which focuses on the country's history and his role in promoting African pride. Too many books about Senghor focus on poetry. I'm not keen on poetry; history and biography are my main focus.Bonita.Evans. Ph.D.
