The Memories of an Ole Geezer, by Harvey Schultz

About the Author Having been raised in the woods of deep East Texas and before the technology boom, Harvey has written many articles of the memories of how he and other folks used to live off what could be raised off the land and what nature provided around them. I feel that he is qualified to write a historical account of that time and, through his experiences, recommend ways that we could again survive if or perhaps when we lose our modern way of life.

By Amazon Customer I bought this for my oldest sister and she loved it. I received it from her today and I plan to read it. My family lived close (very close) to the author of this book. It is wonderful to reconnect to the past.

The author describes the way he was raised in rural east Texas in a very accurate and truthful story. My parents and grandparents grew up in an almost identical setting and their stories are very similar to those described in the book. Mr. Schultz learned at a very early age the value of close family values, sacrifices and the hard work required to survive. But he never complained. This ought to be required reading for our younger generations to ponder the way things use to be in the "good ole days."

The American Revolutionary War was an event that changed the path of nations. The birth of the United States of America signaled a deadly struggle that cost the lives of thousands of American and British soldiers. The conflict between the mother country, Britain, and the colonist didn’t start overnight; it was series of events over a decade that finally led to the first shots being fired at the battle of Lexington and Concord. This bitter war would drag on for years with battlegrounds scattered up and down the eastern seaboard of the now United States – few were spared the effects of the war. Men such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin would prove to be key individuals that helped turn what seemed like a certain defeat for the colonists into a victory over the most powerfully military force in the world. The long running conflict between the British and the French worked to the American’s favor, as the French were key allies in the war and helped to turn the tide in the favor of the beleaguered Continental Army. It would take more than eight long years from the first shot being fired to the final peace treaty being signed before this bloody chapter of America would close. Buy the book “The American Revolutionary War – A Short History” and learn about the traumatic events that formed the most powerful and important nation in the history of the world. 30 Minute Book Series Welcome to the fifth book in the 30 Minute Book Series. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Institutional Racism: Essays for, and about, white people in the U.S. By Niela Miller OK, white people, (of which I am one), this slim little book is not for the faint-hearted. If you are willing to be provoked, poked and proddedinto thinking deeply and realizing how much we need to learn and understand about racial injustice, please read this intelligent, moving, highly anecdotal, and knowledgeable set of essays by Lola E. Peters who provides dozens of examples from her own experience which illuminatethe points she is making in each section. Her voice is challenging, honest, and touched with a range of feeling. These essays could provide the basis for much needed reflection, conversation, and change in the way we do things.

Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.

It is interesting if only for the perspective fo the author. He wrote while the experiences were fresh, with the frustrations of a colonial sent to fight on a minor front. He provides an informative description of his experiences.Interestingly, I read this while in Turkey, immediately before visiting the Gallipoli battlefield. I saw some of the same sites of which he writes. Perhaps this personal experience impacted my opinion of the book, but I feel it is a very worthwhile read by anyone interested in the campaign.

I have been trying to cover fiction, non-fiction, officers, enlisted, strategies, tactics allies and especially from the Turks point of view. All the Gallipoli books have held my interest because of my love of historical epics.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Surprisingly Insightful Personal Recollection By T. Victor There is a significant difference in American perceptions of its battlefield enemies and that of its Allies when it comes to viewing the same enemy. In this case non-American, English speaking soldier took an objective assessment, sometimes even one of high respect in certain cases, that makes this credible reading. Not once in this book did author Gallishaw attempt to sound superior to the Turks. In fact, he writes with professional admiration of their extremely accurate artillery fire and of its devastating effect. He also notes that the Turks treated POWs humanely, and rendered medical treatment on the battlefield to their enemy soldiers. His balanced treatment of his experiences gives a personal insight into what happened in the Dardanelles. For World War I historians, amateur and professional, this is a very worthwhile "eyewitness" book to read. [For Kindle owners, the book is free, another reason to read it!]
