It will keep you intrigued from the beginning learning where it all began with the author’s grandparents and parents, to the end when he and his brothers went back years later to reflect on the memories. The book takes you on an adventure of a family that struggled with tragedy, and a mother raising 14 children as a widow. It also shows how even with a difficult start in life (heart problem), the author overcame medical difficulties and became someone who gave back to society. The book while showing the difficult challenges of transiting from West Virginia to Ohio, will also bring you laughter at the things that can sometimes happen within their lives and medical situations. It is a story of hope that makes you feel that anything is possible with a positive attitude and a will to overcome.

So many memories brought back revolving around the political situation at the time. Also very enlightening look at the world from the view of a child of color growing up in turbulent times , a child with major health problems. A peek into the lives of black Americans in rural America and the Jim Crow south. An informative well written work that brought back many memories that the mind had forgotten but still remained in the heart.

On reading I became more involved than I have with any other account of WW1.We were used as shock troops. Send the Australians in was the rule of the day by the British Generals.This was the case until early 1918 , when the Australians were allowed their own leadership and corps control. Wow did it work. Did it help to bring about the armistice? I think without doubt.Add the tranisition from trench to open warfare with speed and daring ,supported by good intelligence ,adequate artillery and that new ship !. The Tank The Australians did their bit.Now 100 years have passed.I have enjoyed the pleasure and the pain of visiting northern France and Belgium.I have received the enormous heart felt THANKS from the French. They are forever indebted to the Australian military for the part Austalians played in the liberating of their towns and villages along with the contributions to the eventual armistice.

I have just recently learned about his life and involvement in WW1. Of course most Americans know very little about the Great War and it's continuing effect on world events to this day. It's too bad we don't have his type in today's leaderless world. He would be a giant in business, politics, academia, and much more. This is a must read book not just for WW1 interest but to realize what great men are made of.

This book/journal is a snap-shot into the 2004 deployment of an Infantry Platoon Sergeant who retired from the 82nd Airborne Division, and later deployed with a North Carolina National Guard Unit in Operation Enduring Freedom. The book offers a real world glimpse of the behind the scenes day to day struggles with being a professional soldier who is thrust into life or death situations with part time, often less than committed amateurs and Iraqi National Guardsmen.If you are expecting a fantastic drama, with heart pounding, cliff hanging action, and legendary sniping with hundreds of kills, this isn't your title. If you want to know what life was really like on a day to day basis for a modern soldier, possibly what your friend or family member went through and didn't talk about when they returned home, this is your book.The format is traditional in the beginning of the book, but switches to a day to day journal entry format after the initial scene is set. It was fascinating for me to travel the highs and lows with the author as he went about his day to day activities and shared his private thoughts with you during his down time.The book is self published and has not been through proof reading or editing by anyone. There are some typos and misspellings here and there and some past and present tense issues, but if you take it in the context of the author being a career grunt, those finishing issues can be overlooked in my opinion.

Thank you for allowing a better understanding and appreciation of these dedicated members of the military. I read this book non stop I was very much informed about the many elite units in the US Military. The layout made the read fast and simple. Elite units should be a recommended read for any young man in a recruiter station trying to decide what branch of the service or unit to join. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Both books were written in such a way that even a novice can understand and appreciate the different Special Forces units of various countries. The layout and typography contribute to the ease of reading. The writing is not too technical. I can appreciate the war-themed and military-themed games even more because of the information I gained from this book.

On the morning of 3 January 1941, Australians of the 6th Division led an assault against the Italian colonial fortressvillage of Bardia in Libya, not far from the Egyptian-Libyan frontier. The ensuing battle was the second of the First Libyan Campaign, but the first battle of the Second World War planned and fought predominantly by Australians. The fortress fell to the attackers a little over two days after the attack began, in what could only be described as a remarkable victory. At a cost of 130 killed and 326 wounded, the 6th Division captured around 40,000 Italian prisoners and very large quantities of military stores and equipment. The victory was heralded at the time in Australia as one of the greatest military achievements of that nation's military history. Quite soon afterwards, however, overshadowed perhaps by Rommel's subsequent desert advances, the tragedy in Greece, and the war in the Pacific, Bardia slipped from the public mind. Very few Australians today have heard of the battle. This book attempts to bring Bardia back into the light.

The Battle of Bardia is about the capture of Bardia (in Libya) during January of 1941, mainly by Australian forces. It has a great deal of individual detail, as you hear about this sergeant who was shot while peaking over the top of a trench, or this officer who captured over 1,000 with one other soldier and a Bren Carrier. What I find really interesting about the book is that how much went wrong for the Australians in the southern part of the battle in the first day. When you hear how lopsided the casualties were, once prisoners are counted, you wouldn't think the Aussies had any issues at all.The Battle of Bardia is 3,030 locations long and has a number of pictures and maps. I was able to pick it up for free, but definitely worth purchasing if you want a lot of detail about one battle in the first N. African campaign.

It gives such insight into a very dismal and dark period of our country, and should give wisdom on dealing with such new problems as we face today. Lincoln was one of a kind, I wish we had his wisdom and fortitude today. Especially do I wish for his truth and integrity which seem to be sorely lacking.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Deep and Dark and Elucidating By D. Mann Fortunately, I am a serious history student and am of septuagenarian age. I can read the turgid and sometimes verbose language of Lincoln's time and actually figure out point he was making at the time. This book requires study and an effort to understand what the conditions were in his time vis a vis our unfortunate time of trial and tribulation.

Here you have a complete collection of 7 massive volumes written by Abraham Lincoln. The creator of this Kindle edition has done a good job and are to be congratulated. Who would think that you could acquire such a collection for only 99 cents.Amazing.
