Wars throughout history are fought by thousands against thousands. Usually we know the politics, the President, and the "famous" contributers. We are educated of the end results; but what is seldom reflected upon is that the thousands consisted of an accumulation of ones. Individuals, men and women, who had their own lives with their own friends, and families - which were set aside for the priority of fighting for their country. More than a Hat is a compilation of interviews of such individuals. They're not famous. Their names are not blazen in history books. But it wasn't the Generals, or the President, that won the war; it was the people. The singular, common, unacknowledged people. The people who surround us today in restaurants, and bus stops; taking with them quietly everything they know. If we want to truly understand our history from the ground up - we should listen. 100% of author proceeds from this publication go to Veterans' charities so that the many soldiers are taken care of - as they should be - and some can go back to their battlegrounds, wherever they may be, and have the closure they need to find their final peace with it.

About the Author “Born into the wrong Generation” her grandmother used to say. Born in Seattle, Washington in 1978, Hydee Hernandez is the granddaughter of a World War II B24 waist-gunner POW, as well as the niece of a highly-decorated Vietnam veteran. Although she never truly knew either of them she proudly incorporates their legacy within her great admiration of Veterans. Hydee attributes the start of this fascination to her grandmother, Gloria Jean Vineall, who influenced her love of “the Greatest Generation” through exposure to the music, fashion, and the integrity of the era. It was in grade school that she and her father would watch a Vietnam-based television show which began a complete immersion into gratitude towards veterans; fully realizing their bravery, and sacrifices. She decided to spend the rest of her life making a point to thank them when she had the opportunity with a goal to be sure they know they’re not forgotten. Hydee’s passion extends to all veterans of every generation, but her heart and soul belong to the WW2 Generation because for her they were the epitome of everything she admires - bravery, honor, and integrity. 100% of author profits go to Veteran's Charities across the U.S.

The author thoroughly explores the "rest of the story" of these veterans, and the narrative is very detailed and informative. It was easy to find myself immersed in the stories of each veteran's struggles and experiences. While both uplifting and realistically poignant, the author's clear command of these heroes' experiences illustrates perfectly this dwindling generation of heroes who, almost to a person, took great pains to NOT be considered heroes. Nice to see some local ties to the Northwest in these stories, with plenty of local history and detail. Well done.
