I have had it for apx 50 years. I received it when she passed away and I was in the 8th grade. I am an author and my pen name is Phyll T. I have read this book many times and amazed about the life it tells of a time gone pass. I would love to meet any one who has knowledge of the original books and their values. By C Forrester Reading this book has truly opened my eyes to what it is like to be on the front line; very action packed and easy to read. This book also really gives you insight on what it is like to be in the minds of soldiers who are taken away from their home and put in a strange land dealing with death, injury, and missing home. I really enjoyed this book from the beginning to the end and highly recommend it.

In 1973, Sandy Sanderson attended School of Infantry in Gwelo, in what was then central Rhodesia, for officer training. Now, more than 40 years on, he has written a book based on the diary he kept. The result is a frank, detailed and sometimes humorous account of the training as it happened. The book will be intriguing to people from all parts of the world with an interest in the military. In June 1977, Time magazine commented, “Man for man, the Rhodesian Army ranks amongst the world’s finest fighting units”. If this were true the training must surely have contributed. Recruits were trained by some of the toughest and most experienced military instructors in the world, all of whom possessed a varied, if profane, vocabulary. As Sandy put it, “Any Rhodesian drill instructor could string a sentence together consisting entirely of expletives, apart from the odd indefinite article, and make perfect sense”. In spite of this they were hugely respected and their expertise undoubtedly saved many lives.

Grandpa Manley was a member of the U S Marine Corps shortly after the U. S. acquired Guam from Spain after the Spanish American War. He remained on the island after his military service, served briefly as the first Superintendent of Public Education, married Grandma shortly thereafter. They had 13 children. When Guam fell to Imperial Japan in December 1941, he along with the rest of the non-Guamainans (civilian and military; ironically some of them were the clergy -- Spanish citizens) were sent to Japan as POWs. I am very pleased that you have shared these photos.

By Zoe This is an important book that uses statistical data to identify characteristics of Obama "haters." Its conclusions, that Tea Party supporters have more anti-Black, xenophobic and Islamophobic attitudes than other conservatives, has implications for political organizing. Austin emphasizes that since much of the hatred uncovered by the American National Election Study was based on misinformation and unfounded fears, education offers a real strategy for altering these attitudes. This book and its message are timely as we racist rhetoric on the presidential campaign trail contrasting with minorities' growing social and political influence.

Well-written, well-argued, and relevant By Amazon Customer Austin makes a very straightforward but very significant overall point regarding race relations. There is plenty of evidence to back it up, and he gives a good amount of concessions to the opposing point of view which bolsters his credibility. The question of whether or not America is post-racial affects all of our lives tremendously; if America is not post-racial, then our country is being held back by failing to harness the productive potential of millions of racial minorities. This book sheds a lot of light on this very important question.
