By Zoe This is an important book that uses statistical data to identify characteristics of Obama "haters." Its conclusions, that Tea Party supporters have more anti-Black, xenophobic and Islamophobic attitudes than other conservatives, has implications for political organizing. Austin emphasizes that since much of the hatred uncovered by the American National Election Study was based on misinformation and unfounded fears, education offers a real strategy for altering these attitudes. This book and its message are timely as we racist rhetoric on the presidential campaign trail contrasting with minorities' growing social and political influence.

Well-written, well-argued, and relevant By Amazon Customer Austin makes a very straightforward but very significant overall point regarding race relations. There is plenty of evidence to back it up, and he gives a good amount of concessions to the opposing point of view which bolsters his credibility. The question of whether or not America is post-racial affects all of our lives tremendously; if America is not post-racial, then our country is being held back by failing to harness the productive potential of millions of racial minorities. This book sheds a lot of light on this very important question.
